Deakin University: GAMSAT requirements
Deakin interviews a maximum of 220 applicants and publishes no cutoff — but Tier 1 of its Rural Training Stream waives the GAMSAT altogether.
- 50Minimum overall to apply
- 50Minimum in each section
- 5.00Minimum GPA to apply
- 1:1:2ACER weighted overall
Every figure on this page is a number to compare yourself against, which is difficult to do without a score of your own. Our GAMSAT practice test is free, timed and marked section by section, so you can find out where you currently stand against Deakin’s requirements before you spend a cycle applying to it.
What is distinctive about Deakin
The most useful fact about Deakin is not a score. Tier 1 of its Rural Training Stream requires no GAMSAT at all — qualifying applicants are assessed without it, for 30 places. Almost nobody publishes that.
For everyone else the mechanics are conventional: ACER’s weighted overall, a floor of 50 overall and in every section, GPA 5.0, then equal weighting of GPA and GAMSAT with adjustments applied on top.
The constraint that actually bites at Deakin is capacity rather than any threshold. No more than 220 applicants are interviewed, which caps how far down the ranked list the school reaches — and that depth moves with the applicant pool each year. Deakin publishes no cutoff.

How Deakin scores the GAMSAT
This institution uses ACER's published overall score.
| Scoring method | Formula used | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| ACER's weighted overall score | (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4 | The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out. |
Where the GAMSAT sits in the decision: Equal weighting of GPA and GAMSAT, plus adjustments.
