Griffith University: GAMSAT requirements

Griffith states it outright: “there is no discrete cut-off point for GAMSAT”. Selection is a 50:50 composite of GPA percentage and overall score.

Every figure on this page is a number to compare yourself against, which is difficult to do without a score of your own. Our GAMSAT practice test is free, timed and marked section by section, so you can find out where you currently stand against Griffith’s requirements before you spend a cycle applying to it.

What is distinctive about Griffith

Griffith is unusually direct about the thing applicants most want to know, and its answer is that the question is wrong. Its own words: “there is no discrete cut-off point for GAMSAT”. The ranking is continuous.

The mechanism explains why. Griffith converts an unweighted GPA into a percentage and combines it 50:50 with the overall GAMSAT. Any GAMSAT can be rescued by a GPA and any GPA by a GAMSAT, so no single value marks a boundary — the last person admitted simply had the lowest combined figure that year.

Overall 50, each section 50, GPA 5.0. Clearing those makes you eligible and nothing more. The First Peoples Health Pathway needs no GAMSAT at all: GPA 5.0 is the academic requirement.

Courses admitting through the GAMSAT

How Griffith scores the GAMSAT

This institution uses ACER's published overall score.

Scoring methodFormula usedWhat that means for you
ACER's weighted overall score(S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out.

Where the GAMSAT sits in the decision: 50:50 unweighted GPA as percentage to overall GAMSAT.

Every figure this institution publishes

Griffith publishes no threshold figure

There is no cutoff, median or interviewee average to report here — not because we could not find one, but because Griffith University does not publish one.

Any site showing you a specific Griffith cutoff has estimated it. Where minimums exist they are listed below, and a minimum is a floor to be eligible, not a competitive bar.

Pathways where the GAMSAT is waived entirely

Griffith admits through a pathway that require no GAMSAT score at all.

  • First Peoples Health Pathway — GAMSAT not required, GPA 5.0

Eligibility for these pathways is decided by Griffith, not by a score, and the criteria are specific. If you may qualify, contact the university directly — this is the least-documented part of GAMSAT admissions anywhere, and it is not something to rule yourself out of on the basis of a summary.

Common questions about Griffith

Does Griffith publish a GAMSAT cutoff?

No. Griffith University publishes no cutoff, median or interviewee average at all. Anyone quoting a specific figure for Griffith has estimated it.

What GAMSAT score do you need to apply to Griffith?

An overall score of at least 50, and at least 50 in each section. A GPA of 5.00 is also required. These are eligibility floors. Meeting them does not make you competitive.

Does Griffith use the weighted or unweighted GAMSAT score?

ACER's weighted overall score — (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4. The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out.

Can you get into Griffith without sitting the GAMSAT?

Through one pathway, yes: First Peoples Health Pathway — GAMSAT not required, GPA 5.0. Eligibility is set by the university, not by a score.
