GAMSAT cutoffs by university

Every published GAMSAT figure for all 33 institutions — and, next to each one, what kind of number it actually is. A cutoff, a minimum, an interviewee average and an admitted median are four different things, and confusing them will send you to the wrong conclusion about where you can apply.

Read the label before you read the number

Ulster publishes 59. City St George’s publishes 56. Listed in one column those numbers say Ulster is the harder school. The reverse is true: 59 is the average score of people Ulster interviewed, so roughly half of them scored below it, while 56 is the lowest score City St George’s actually took.

Every figure in the table below carries its type. No other site in this market makes the distinction, which is the reason this page exists.

The country filter below is the first one worth using, because the markets do not work alike. Australia is the largest group in the table at 13 institutions, and how Australian universities use the score — GEMSAS preferences, GPA weighted at roughly half the decision, and almost no published cutoffs at all — explains why so many Australian rows here read “not published” where the UK rows carry a number.

There is deliberately no “sort by score” control. The column mixes cutoffs, application minimums, interviewee averages and admitted medians, and ordering them by value would produce a ranking that is meaningless by construction.

What each label means

Only the first two can be compared against your own score. The other two cannot, in either direction.

Actual cutoff
The lowest score actually admitted or invited to interview in this round.
Minimum to apply
A floor to be eligible to apply. Meeting it does not make you competitive.
Average of interviewees
The mean score of those interviewed — not a threshold. Roughly half of those interviewed scored below it.
Admitted median
The midpoint of the admitted cohort. The actual admitted floor can be far lower.
None published
This institution publishes no threshold.

The two soft types are the ones that cause damage. UQ’s published 65.33 is the medianof its admitted cohort — and UQ also publishes the range, which ran from 51.66 to 81.00. Treating 65.33 as a bar overstates the actual admitted floor by nearly fourteen points, and anyone at 60 who reads it as a cutoff would rule themselves out of a place they could have had.

The same applies to the interviewee averages published by UWA and both Notre Dame campuses. They describe who got interviewed, not who was eligible.

Whichever of the four labels you are reading, the number only means something once you have one of your own to set beside it. If you do not yet, sit a full practice test under exam timing and use the section scores it returns as your working figure for the rest of this table.

One institution, four different cutoffs

Flinders publishes genuine cutoffs — and they span 18 points inside the same medical school.

Flinders is the only Australian school that publishes real cutoffs rather than averages or ranges, and its figures show exactly why a single headline number is dangerous. The standard cutoff and the humanitarian sub-quota cutoff are 18 points apart.

Sub-quotaCutoffTypeYear
Standard (non-rural)74Actual cutoff2026 entry
Rural — Bedford Park69Actual cutoff2026 entry
Flinders graduate63Actual cutoff2026 entry
Humanitarian visa56Actual cutoff2026 entry
Flinders University, verified against its own admissions pages on 28 July 2026. Flinders applies direct, not through GEMSAS, and has no overall minimum to apply — that is a verified negative, not a gap in our data.

Publish only the 74 and a rural applicant sitting on 70, or a Flinders graduate on 65, reads it as a closed door. All three of those people are above a cutoff that applies to them. This is not a rounding detail — it is the difference between applying and not applying.

Records we could not fully verify

4 of the 33 institutions carry details we could not confirm against a primary source. They are shown anyway, marked.

Deleting them would make the dataset look cleaner and be less useful. Filling the gaps in with plausible numbers would be worse. Both are common; neither is honest.

Why we do not build this list from ACER’s page

ACER publishes its own list of institutions that use GAMSAT. We checked all of it, and found four errors.

  • Melbourne’s Doctor of Optometryuses no admissions test at all — selection runs on WAM alone.
  • UWA’s Doctor of Podiatric Medicine admits graduate entrants on sWAM plus interview, not GAMSAT.
  • UEA’s MSc Physician Associate Studies no longer exists, and ACER still links to it.
  • The University of Nottingham is still listed after moving to UCAT for 2027 entry.

Almost every preparation site builds its university list from that page, and inherits all four. We check each institution against its own admissions pages instead, and date-stamp what we find. Where our figure and a university’s own page disagree, the university is right — please tell us.

How to use this table

  • Check the scoring method before the number.A figure published by a school that uses the unweighted mean cannot be compared with one from a school using ACER’s weighted overall. ScotGEM’s 50 is an unweighted 50 and is not the same bar as a weighted 50 elsewhere.
  • Check the year.Cutoffs move every cycle. City St George’s went 56 → 54 → 56 across three consecutive cycles. Plymouth’s medicine page still stops at 2024 entry.
  • “Not published” means not published.Sydney states outright that previous thresholds “will not be published or provided”. Griffith states there is “no discrete cut-off point”. UEA publishes none by policy. Those are answers, not gaps.
  • Work out your own figure both ways first. The score calculator gives you the weighted and unweighted overall together, and shows which one each school on this list would use.

Common questions

What is the lowest GAMSAT score accepted by a university?

The lowest published cutoffs here are 50: ScotGEM for 2025 entry, and Swansea for Welsh-domiciled and international applicants for September 2024 entry. ScotGEM’s 50 is an unweighted 50, so it is not the same bar as a weighted 50 anywhere else. Separately, UQ published an admitted range whose floor was 51.66 — well below the 65.33 median it is usually quoted for. None of these transfers to another institution: each applies to that school, that sub-quota and that year only.

Why do some universities publish no cutoff at all?

Because most do not use one. Australian schools generally rank applicants against each other and interview down the list until places run out, so the effective bar is a consequence of that year’s field rather than a rule set in advance. Sydney goes further and refuses to release historical thresholds on the grounds that they are irrelevant to the current cycle.

Is an interviewee average the same as a cutoff?

No, and the difference is large. An interviewee average is the mean score of people who were invited to interview, so roughly half of them scored below it. Ulster’s 59 and UWA’s 68.53 are averages of this kind. A cutoff is the lowest score actually taken. Reading an average as a cutoff will talk qualified applicants out of applying.

Does Flinders really have four different cutoffs?

Yes — 74 standard, 69 rural at Bedford Park, 63 for Flinders graduates and 56 for the humanitarian visa sub-quota, all for 2026 entry. Which one applies depends on which sub-quota you fall into.

Can I compare a UK cutoff with an Australian one?

Only loosely, and never numerically without checking the method. UK graduate-entry courses mostly rank on ACER’s weighted overall and several publish real cutoffs; Australian schools mostly combine GAMSAT with GPA at around 50:50 and publish nothing. A UK cutoff of 56 and an Australian interviewee average of 68 are not measuring the same thing.

How often do these figures change?

Annually, and some pages lag well behind. Every figure here carries the year it applies to for that reason, and the whole dataset was verified against primary sources on 28 July 2026. Always confirm with the university before acting on anything.

ACER’s own institution list contains four errors we could verify, which is why every row above is checked against the university directly rather than against ACER’s summary. See scope and limitations for the full list.
