Macquarie University: GAMSAT requirements
At Macquarie the GAMSAT gets you interviewed and then stops counting — the offer rank is 50% GPA and 50% MMI, with no GAMSAT in it.
- 50Minimum overall to apply
- 50Minimum in each section
- 5.00Minimum GPA to apply
- 1:1:2ACER weighted overall
Every figure on this page is a number to compare yourself against, which is difficult to do without a score of your own. Our GAMSAT practice test is free, timed and marked section by section, so you can find out where you currently stand against Macquarie’s requirements before you spend a cycle applying to it.
What is distinctive about Macquarie
Macquarie runs selection in two stages, and the GAMSAT only survives the first. Interview shortlisting is 50:50 weighted GPA to GAMSAT. At the offer stage the GAMSAT drops out entirely: 50% GPA, 50% MMI.
That makes the interview the whole event. A high GAMSAT buys you a seat in the room and nothing beyond it, which is a genuinely different optimisation to most of this list — and an argument for putting preparation time into the MMI once you are over the line.
Entry sits at the standard graduate set: weighted GPA 5.0 or WAM 65, overall 50, each section 50. A 3% GPA bonus applies to Indigenous, rural and Macquarie BClinSci applicants, capped at 5% combined.
One thing to settle before you spend a preference here: every domestic place at Macquarie is full-fee. There are no Commonwealth Supported Places and no Bonded Medical Places.

How Macquarie scores the GAMSAT
This institution uses ACER's published overall score.
| Scoring method | Formula used | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| ACER's weighted overall score | (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4 | The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out. |
Where the GAMSAT sits in the decision: 50:50 weighted GPA to GAMSAT at interview. At OFFER stage GAMSAT drops out entirely — 50% GPA, 50% MMI.
Every figure this institution publishes
Macquarie publishes no threshold figure
There is no cutoff, median or interviewee average to report here — not because we could not find one, but because Macquarie University does not publish one.
Any site showing you a specific Macquarie cutoff has estimated it. Where minimums exist they are listed below, and a minimum is a floor to be eligible, not a competitive bar.

Pathways where the GAMSAT is waived entirely
Macquarie admits through a pathway that require no GAMSAT score at all.
- Indigenous Pathway — GAMSAT optional
Eligibility for these pathways is decided by Macquarie, not by a score, and the criteria are specific. If you may qualify, contact the university directly — this is the least-documented part of GAMSAT admissions anywhere, and it is not something to rule yourself out of on the basis of a summary.
Sub-quotas and adjustments
Places are not one undifferentiated pool. These quotas change which list you are ranked in.
- 3% GPA bonus for Indigenous, rural or MQ BClinSci (max 5% combined)
What else you should know
All domestic places are full-fee — no Commonwealth Supported Places and no Bonded Medical Places.
Common questions about Macquarie
Does Macquarie publish a GAMSAT cutoff?
No. Macquarie University publishes no cutoff, median or interviewee average at all. Anyone quoting a specific figure for Macquarie has estimated it.
What GAMSAT score do you need to apply to Macquarie?
An overall score of at least 50, and at least 50 in each section. A GPA of 5.00 is also required. These are eligibility floors. Meeting them does not make you competitive.
Does Macquarie use the weighted or unweighted GAMSAT score?
ACER's weighted overall score — (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4. The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out.
Can you get into Macquarie without sitting the GAMSAT?
Through one pathway, yes: Indigenous Pathway — GAMSAT optional. Eligibility is set by the university, not by a score.
