University of Limerick: GAMSAT requirements
UL’s 2025 cutoff was 53 — the lowest published figure in Ireland — although UL’s own page still shows its 2024 number of 52.
- —No overall minimum published
- —No section minimum published
- —No GPA minimum published

Every figure on this page is a number to compare yourself against, which is difficult to do without a score of your own. Our GAMSAT practice test is free, timed and marked section by section, so you can find out where you currently stand against UL’s requirements before you spend a cycle applying to it.
What is distinctive about UL
UL admitted at 53 for 2025 entry, the lowest published Irish cutoff in this dataset and around nine points below UCD Medicine for the same cycle. For anyone applying through the CAO with a score in the mid-50s, that gap is the whole strategy.
There is a discrepancy worth knowing about. The CAO states 53, twice. UL’s own page shows 52, which was its 2024 figure. We treat the CAO as authoritative here — but if a single point decides your application, confirm it with UL directly rather than with us.
Beyond the cutoff itself UL publishes nothing: no overall minimum, no section minimum. The academic requirement is a 2H1, and applications go through the CAO.

How UL scores the GAMSAT
This institution uses ACER's published overall score.
| Scoring method | Formula used | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| ACER's weighted overall score | (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4 | The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out. |
UL does not publish how the GAMSAT is weighted against the rest of the application. Not published is the honest answer; we do not estimate it.
Every figure this institution publishes
Each figure carries the kind of number it is and the year it applies to. They are not interchangeable.

Common questions about UL
Does UL publish a GAMSAT cutoff?
Yes. 53 for 2025 entry. A cutoff is the lowest score actually admitted or invited to interview in that round, so it moves with the applicant pool every year.
What GAMSAT score do you need to apply to UL?
No minimum overall score is published, and no section minimum is published. No GPA minimum is published. These are eligibility floors. Meeting them does not make you competitive.
Does UL use the weighted or unweighted GAMSAT score?
ACER's weighted overall score — (S1 + S2 + 2 × S3) ÷ 4. The overall score printed on your ACER statement of results. Section 3 counts double. This is the default across the market, which is exactly why the institutions that depart from it catch people out.
Check your score against UL
UL uses ACER's weighted overall, so the figure on your statement of results is the one to compare against everything on this page.
