University of Tasmania: GAMSAT requirements

Tasmania runs a five-year undergraduate-entry combined degree — there is no graduate-entry MD here, and the GPA requirement is 5.25, not the 6.5 that circulates online.

This record is not fully verified

We could not confirm every fact below against University of Tasmania’s own published admissions material. The notes on this page say where the uncertainty sits. Treat this record as provisional and confirm with the university before you act on it.

Every figure on this page is a number to compare yourself against, which is difficult to do without a score of your own. Our GAMSAT practice test is free, timed and marked section by section, so you can find out where you currently stand against Tasmania’s requirements before you spend a cycle applying to it.

What is distinctive about Tasmania

The first thing to get right about Tasmania is the course. BMedScMD is a five-year undergraduate-entry combined degree. There is no graduate-entry MD at UTAS at all, which means most of what you read about graduate-entry requirements simply does not apply here.

The second is the GPA. The requirement is an unweighted 5.25. The figure of 6.5 that circulates on preparation sites is wrong, and it is high enough to deter people who qualify.

UTAS never states whether it uses the weighted or the unweighted score, so we record its scoring method as unverified rather than assuming ACER’s default. It publishes no threshold, does not interview at all, and takes applications directly rather than through GEMSAS.

Its quotas are the largest in the dataset by share: rural 50% of domestic places, Tasmanian residents at least 75%, bonded around 30%. The Aboriginal Entry Pathway requires neither GAMSAT nor UCAT.

How Tasmania scores the GAMSAT

This institution never states which score it uses.

Tasmania on its own method

UTAS never states whether it uses the weighted or unweighted score.

Tasmania does not publish how the GAMSAT is weighted against the rest of the application. Not published is the honest answer; we do not estimate it.

Every figure this institution publishes

Tasmania publishes no threshold figure

There is no cutoff, median or interviewee average to report here — not because we could not find one, but because University of Tasmania does not publish one.

Any site showing you a specific Tasmania cutoff has estimated it. Where minimums exist they are listed below, and a minimum is a floor to be eligible, not a competitive bar.

Pathways where the GAMSAT is waived entirely

Tasmania admits through a pathway that require no GAMSAT score at all.

  • Aboriginal Entry Pathway — neither GAMSAT nor UCAT required

Eligibility for these pathways is decided by Tasmania, not by a score, and the criteria are specific. If you may qualify, contact the university directly — this is the least-documented part of GAMSAT admissions anywhere, and it is not something to rule yourself out of on the basis of a summary.

Sub-quotas and adjustments

Places are not one undifferentiated pool. These quotas change which list you are ranked in.
