Best GAMSAT prep courses, compared honestly

Search “best GAMSAT prep courses” and every organic result except Reddit is a vendor ranking itself first. That is not a coincidence and it is not laziness on Google’s part — there is almost nothing else to rank.

The structural reason is that MedStudentsOnline, the main Australian medical forum, bans prep-course discussion outright. The one place with thousands of candidates who have actually bought these courses will not host the conversation, so it happens on Reddit instead — in scattered threads, with no price table and no dates on anything.

This page is our attempt at the missing comparison. It will be wrong about some things. Where we could not verify something, we say so rather than filling the gap with a plausible number.

Note what that table does to our incentives. The provider we rate most highly pays us nothing. The provider that does pay us is the one we are most cautious about. If that looks like a badly run business, it is — deliberately.

That single word reframes this entire market. The organisation that writes the exam, and is the only body on earth that knows what is actually on it, endorses no provider. Not GradReady, not Fraser’s, not Gold Standard, not Griffiths — and not us.

Anyone implying an official relationship, an “ACER-aligned” syllabus or insider knowledge of the paper is selling you something ACER has explicitly declined to confer.

ACER produces the only official GAMSAT questions in existence. Practice Test A comes free with registration, and further practice tests and e-booklets are sold through the ACER portal. Third-party sources report roughly A$45 for a full-length test and A$27 for a half-length one, but the portal requires an account and we could not read those prices directly — treat both figures as unverified and check inside your own ACER account.

ACER earns us nothing. It is still the first thing to buy. Everything below is what you do after you have worked through the official material and know where you are weak.

Course prices are only one line of the bill. ACER registration is A$568 in Australia before you buy a single resource, the official practice material sits on top of that, and a second sitting means paying the registration fee again in full. We stack the whole ladder in one place, from the exam fee up to the A$5,999 top tier, on our breakdown of what GAMSAT courses cost— every figure dated, and the ones we could not verify labelled rather than filled in.

£167 for the complete system, against a claimed individual module value of £469.55. Roughly 1,000 practice questions updated for the 2026 test, fully worked solutions, 100 real marked student essays with line-by-line feedback, science tutorial videos and a study planner.

Three things separate it from everything else in this list:

• A refund term that is actually a refund. “30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. No questions asked if you aren’t satisfied just send me an email and I’ll happily refund you.” Compare that with Gold Standard’s guarantee, which gives you more time rather than your money, and Fraser’s, which gives you another course.
• Lifetime access, in a market where a year is generous and four months is normal.
• A verifiable author. Dr Peter J Griffiths publishes a GMC registration number. You can check it against the GMC register yourself in about thirty seconds. Nobody else in this market gives you that.

Who it is wrong for: anyone who needs to be taught live, in a room, on a timetable. It is a self-study system, not a course. There are no classes, no cohort and nobody chasing you. If you already know you will not open it, buy structure instead.

What we cannot tell you: independent review volume is thin. The Amazon listing for one Griffiths title carries roughly 4.2 to 4.3 stars from only 16reviews, and much of the praise you will see quoted sits on Griffiths’ own sales page as screenshotted forum posts — self-selected marketing evidence, not an independent sample.

If you are an Australian candidate asking friends what to buy, these are the two names you will hear. They are the largest operations in the market and the most expensive.

GradReady runs from A$299 (Starter: 2,000 MCQs, 3 mocks, 2 essays marked) up to A$5,499 (Success Assured: 7,000+ MCQs, 15 mocks, 100+ hours of attendance classes, 40 tutoring hours, 30 essays marked). The middle of the ladder is where most people land: A$759 Essentials, A$999 Comprehensive online, A$1,649 Comprehensive attendance, A$2,199 Complete Care. All prices exclude GST.

Fraser’s Medical runs A$299 for mocks, A$439 Essentials, A$2,499 Immersive, A$5,399 Comprehensive online and A$5,999 Comprehensive in person. It also operates a deliberate upgrade ladder: what you paid for Essentials is deducted if you move up to a premium course. Its guarantee is the strongest-sounding in the market — “If you complete the full Comprehensive Course and don’t score 65+, you’ll be eligible for free enrolment in the next Immersive Program” — but read it precisely: it is a re-enrolment right, not a refund, it applies to Comprehensive tiers only, and the free course you get is the cheaper one.

Who they are wrong for:anyone for whom A$5,399 is a real amount of money, which is most people. That is roughly ten times the ACER registration fee. Both companies’ cheap tiers exist and are far more defensible purchases than their expensive ones. If you are buying a top tier, buy it for the live teaching and the marked essays, because that is what you cannot get anywhere else at any price — not for the question bank, which you can.

On what students say: both brands are argued about at length on Reddit, and the recurring pattern in those threads is that essay and Section 2 feedback is praised while science content is criticised as shallow relative to price. We are reporting that as community discussion, not independently verified by us — Reddit was blocked to our research crawler, so we read titles and search snippets rather than whole threads. Go and read them yourself before spending four figures.

Medify is the cheapest serious option here: a free tier, £15 per week, £30 per month, or £210 per year. One subscription unlocks UCAT, GAMSAT, interviews and A Levels. For GAMSAT it lists 7,000 practice questions with explanations, 7 full mocks plus 2 short mocks covering Sections 1 and 3, and Section 2 guidance with 7 test-like tasks.

Note that medify.com.au redirects to medify.co, so Australian candidates are billed in pounds and carry the exchange rate.

Who it is wrong for:anyone who needs teaching. This is drilling volume, not instruction. The other recurring criticism in comparison threads is that Medify’s GAMSAT content is thinner than its UCAT flagship, which is the product the company is actually built around — again, community discussion rather than something we verified. Its Trustpilot page was blocked to us, so we cannot quote a score.

Gold Standard is the only mainstream GAMSAT provider with a published affiliate rate: 10% on all products with a 60-day cookie. So take everything in this section with that in mind.

The Platinum package is A$2,499(list A$2,999). It includes six Masters Series paperbacks plus eBooks, 17 full-length practice tests, 300+ science videos across 70+ hours, weekly live small-group tutorials, 16 professionally scored essays and complete worked solutions to ACER’s Section 3 material. The company claims 6,000+ practice questions in total. Access is one year, extendable to a two-year total under the score guarantee — which, again, gives you time rather than money back.

Its free layer is genuinely large and un-gated: a free practice test, a question of the day, free monthly webinars, a study schedule, physics equations and organic chemistry summaries. Try that before paying for anything.

Who it is wrong for:anyone who wants a single, current, tightly-edited resource. Question quality is the contested part of this brand. There is a long-running Reddit thread titled “Why does everyone hate the Gold Standard Gamsat?” and separate threads criticising the general chemistry material specifically. We could not read the full threads — Reddit was blocked to our crawler — so treat that as reported community sentiment, not verified fact. But it is enough that we will not tell you Gold Standard is the best buy here, even though it is the only one that pays us.

Des O’Neill(desoneill.online) sells four section volumes at A$350 each, or A$1,000 for the complete set, down from A$1,400. Historically this was the most respected third-party resource in the market. The complication is currency, not quality: the site is live with current 2026 pricing and active shipping, but multiple third-party sources state the operation stopped producing new material around 2014 and that the content has not been updated to ACER’s format changes since. Several of those sources are competitors with an obvious motive. We are not asserting either version as settled fact.The defensible line: the materials remain purchasable at current prices, and their content is widely reported to predate ACER’s recent format changes. Ask the seller directly what edition you are buying before paying A$1,000.

Medic Mindis tutoring-led: A$199 for the video course, A$1,880 for 20 hours of one-to-one tutoring (about A$94 an hour), and a first-lesson money-back guarantee. Its question bank is described as “hundreds of questions” — materially smaller than Medify’s 7,000 or GradReady’s 7,000+. We also found its two-hour introductory lesson advertised at both A$140 and A$199 on the same day, so treat that price as promotional and unstable. Who it is wrong for: anyone buying for content rather than for a person. You are buying tutor hours, and tutor quality in a marketplace model varies.

GradMed owns gamsat.co.uk and gamsat.ie, has been operating since 2002 and runs live courses at Imperial College London. Its free layer is real — 300+ free past questions and free online section tests, which are worth using. Its prices are not published on either domain; you have to request a prospectus. We could not complete a UK-versus-Ireland price comparison from public sources, and neither can anyone else. Who it is wrong for: anyone who thinks a company should tell you what it charges before it has your email address.

Two reasons we are not taking it.

One: the reputation.The most visible comment on the r/GAMSAT thread about AceGAMSAT reads “Acegamsat is s scam, please do not purchase” with around 35 upvotes, and a separate thread about fake reviews in this market records a user reporting no response to pre-sales questions. We must be precise here: Reddit was blocked to our research crawler, so this reached us through search snippets and is not independently verified by us. It is not a finding. It is a reason to stay away from the thing we would otherwise be paid most to promote.

Two: the affiliate terms make honest reviewing impossible. AceGAMSAT’s own conditions require that “Affiliates must behave in a positive manner at all times when referring customers to AceGAMSAT”, and reserve the right to cancel the agreement at any time without notice. You cannot sign a contract that obliges you to be positive and also write an independent review. Any site that carries an AceGAMSAT link has accepted that clause.

There is a third, more boring problem: the cookie is 3 days. GAMSAT candidates research for weeks against fixed March and September sittings. A three-day attribution window would forfeit most of that headline 40% anyway. But the cookie is not why we said no.

For completeness, and because a refusal should not be a smear: AceGAMSAT’s A$397 course is advertised as 16 prep books with science content, strategies, practice questions and trial tests, delivered as downloads. Its refund term is 7 days and discretionary — “if deemed acceptable”. Individual title prices are not published on its category page, so we could not verify them.

Stating this is more useful than a blanket disclaimer.

• ACER practice-test prices (~A$45 full, ~A$27 half) are third-party sourced. The portal requires an account.

• GradMed prices are not public at all.
• Medify’s free-tier contents are not itemised on its pricing page.
• Individual AceGAMSAT title prices are not listed on its category page.
• Amazon’s book commission rate (~4.5%) comes from third-party rate tables; the official schedule sits behind an Associates login.
